Over 116,000 New Gas Connections Approved by Govt. for 2025-26

Even though Pakistan is facing a serious natural gas shortage, the federal government has approved a large-scale plan to provide more than 116,000 new gas connections in the upcoming fiscal year 2025–26.
As per the official budget documents, the government has set a goal to install 115,530 new domestic gas connections across the country. In addition to these household connections, the plan also includes:
- 550 connections for commercial consumers
- 350 connections for industrial users

Region-Wise Breakdown of Connections
The distribution of these new connections will be managed by the country’s two major gas companies:
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL)
- Will handle 30,530 new connections
- Areas covered: Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC)
- Responsible for 85,740 new connections
- Areas covered: Sindh and Balochistan
Comparison with Current Year
- In the current fiscal year, the government had set a revised target of only 20,061 new gas connections.
- The target for 2025–26 is almost six times higher, showing a clear commitment to improving gas access across Pakistan, especially in regions that remain underdeveloped or poorly served.
The government’s main aim is to enhance gas availability for households, businesses, and industries—even though the country continues to deal with gas shortages.
By adding more connections, the authorities hope to:
- Support economic growth
- Meet the rising energy needs of the population
- Improve living standards in remote and underserved areas
